  • The first majorette squad was formed in 1948-1949. The first head majorette was Diane McCracken.

  • The uniforms from 1970/71 and 1979/80 are the same! Due to budgetary reasons, new uniforms could not be purchased. However, the uniforms from 1970/71 were "yellowed" and they were subsequently dyed black.


The "Shield"

The iconic shield made its first appearance during the 1983/84 marching season. Vivian Cottrell Lee, mother of majorette Lori Cottrell (1985), designed the uniform and shield. The inspiration for the shield came from the Dormont High School (later Keystone Oaks) Majorettes. Vivian's sister and sister-in-law were both majorettes during the 1960s and she always liked the "look" of the shield. The shield was used on South Fayette Majorette uniforms from 1983 until 2016.
